MACIAS

Juanita (Ortiz) Macias, age 90, a longtime resident of Hollis, passed away Saturday, February 15, 2014 at her home in Hollis with many family members by her side.

Juanita was born in Alamo, Texas on August 29, 1923 to parents, Ladislado and Rafaila (Gonzales) Ortiz. On August 12, 1940 Juanita married Jose Macias in Alamo, Texas and they raised a beautiful family and were married for over 50 years before Jose’s death on January 1, 1993. Throughout her years in Hollis, Juanita cleaned houses for several ladies and was custodian at Stockman’s Bank and she also worked at the Headstart when it first opened in Hollis. Juanita was very active with her membership at Our Lady of Guadalupe Catholic Church in Hollis. She, along with others, worked very hard at getting Our Lady of Guadalupe Catholic Church built, and she even had Mass Services in her own home until a proper location was built. She also was very important to the church in keeping it maintained as long as she was able to. Juanita enjoyed gardening, sewing, driving the tractor, babysitting and spending time with her grandchildren, and taking care of her church and her family, and she will be missed very much.

Preceded in death by her husband Jose Macias; her parents, Ladislado and Rafaila Ortiz; two brothers, Gregorio and Jesus Ortiz; two sisters, Olivia Benavidez and Concepcion Garza; four grandchildren, Miguel Angel Macias; Vicente Macias, Jr.; Miguel Antonio Aguilar; Guadalupe “Wally” Macias; two great grandchildren, Anthony Stephen Macias and Jacob Macias; Juanita is survived by two sons, Jose “Little Joe” Macias, Jr. and wife Virginia of McKinney, Texas; Vicente Macias, Sr. and wife Janie of Gould; one daughter, Anna Maria Aguilar and husband Candelario of Hollis; one brother-in-law, Candelario Villarreal of Alamo, Texas; twelve grandchildren, Stephen Macias and wife Minda of McKinney, Texas; Jose Macias, III and wife Melissa of Bartow, Florida; Marta S. Macias and husband David Valles of Childress, Texas; Alex Macias and wife Stormy of Amarillo, Texas; Nicolas Macias and wife Hallie of Quanah, Texas; Olivia Macias of Childress, Texas; Monica Castillo and husband Johnny of Altus; Florenda Beardon and husband Jeff of Duke; and Jerome Huerta and wife Chelsey of Altus; JoAnn Slaughter and husband David of Goodwell, Oklahoma; Rebecca Luna of Hollis; Dianna Guerra and husband Blas Jose of Arlington, Texas; 45 great grandchildren; 17 great great grandchildren; a granddaughter-in-law, Maria Macias of Sherman, Texas; as well as many nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.

Rosary services will be from 6:00 pm until 8:00 pm Tuesday, February 18, 2014 at Harmon County Funeral Home’s Chapel in Hollis.

Funeral Mass services will be 1:00 pm, Wednesday, February 19, 2014 at Our Lady of Guadalupe Catholic Church in Hollis with Father Arokiasamy Andarias officiating. Interment will follow at Gould Cemetery under the direction of Harmon County Funeral Home.
