Joyce E. Howard, 84, of Altus, passed way early Friday morning, August 21, 2009, at English Village Nursing Home.
Joyce was born October 12, 1924, in Danville, Arkansas, to Jeff and Osie (Moonses) Wilson. She moved with her family to Oklahoma in 1927. She was raised in the Blair, Oklahoma area. Joyce graduated from Midway High School in 1943. She married Oscar (Junior) Howard in Electra, Texas on April 23, 1947. They made their home in Altus. In 1953, she and Junior moved to Los Alamos, New Mexico where her husband worked for Atomic Energy Commission. They later moved to Las Cruces in 1963. Joyce, along with her husband and son, moved back to Altus in July 1966. She started working for Montgomery Ward in 1969 and retired in 1986 after seventeen years of faithful service.
Joyce was a member of the Emmanuel Baptist Church in Altus and was part of the willing workers Sunday School class. Her beloved husband, Junior, preceded her in death December 12, 1998.
Joyce is survived by her son, Joe Michael Howard and wife Janet of Altus; four grandchildren, Shane Howard, Tammy Darden and husband Keith, David Holder and wife Joy, Ike Holder and wife Kat; five great-grandchildren, Jordan Adkins, David Lee Holder, Christopher Holder, Teena Darden, and Dakota Holder; her sister-in-law, Odessa Wilson of Independence, Missouri; and numerous nieces, nephews, other extended family, and many friends. Joyce was preceded in death by her parents; her husband Oscar Howard, Jr.; one brother, Dixon Wilson; and three sisters, Lela Burke, Doris Stroud, and Hazel Wilson.

Memorial donations may be made in memory of Joyce Howard to the Parkinson"s Foundation or to the charity of one"s choice.

The family will receive friends on Sunday, August 23, from 3:00 to 5:00 p.m. at Lowell-Tims Funeral Home.

Funeral Services will be held 11:00 a.m., Monday, August 24, 2009, at Lowell-Tims Chapel with Reverend Boyd Whitehead officiating. Interment will follow at the Altus City Cemetery under the direction of Lowell-Tims Funeral Home.
