Obituary for Josefina Paula Reyes
Josefina Paula Reyes, longtime resident of Tipton, passed away peacefully on June1, 2022 at her daughter's home surrounded by family. She was 84 years old at the time of her death.
Paula was born on January 25, 1938 in Charlotte, Texas to her parents, Arcadio and Amalia (Rendon) Chavez. The Chavez family moved to Tillman County Oklahoma in the fall of 1955. Paula grew up in Tipton where she met the love of her life, Ruben Reyes. They married at the St. Xavier Catholic Church in Frederick, OK on December 22, 1957. Their loving union lasted over 38 years until Ruben's passing in 1995. They were blessed with six children.
Paula worked in Tipton's school system as a cafeteria cook and assistant teacher. She also worked for DHS for many years taking care of the community's elderly. Paula devoted herself to managing their home full-time and raising her children. When she completely retired, she enjoyed traveling and spending time with her grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
Paula was a woman of strong faith and believed in the awesome power of prayer. She was a member of the Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Tipton where she was active in the outreach ministry. Later, she moved her membership to the Prince of Peace Catholic Church in Altus, OK.
She leaves behind a legacy of kindness, love and generosity. She will be missed by all who knew her.
Paula was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Ruben (1995); her son, Margarito "Margo" Reyes; her brothers: Margarito "Mark" Chavez and Ramon Chavez; and her two sisters: Emma Zuniga and Concepcion "Connie" Balderas.
Left to honor her everlasting memory are her children: Molly Maldonado (Leo); Ruben Reyes Jr. (Michelle) of Parma Heights, OH; Paula Key Espinosa (Steve) of Altus, OK; Judy Ann Payne (Doug) of Yukon, OK; and Mary Anne Davis (Ryan) of Altus, OK; Seven sisters: Lucia Casias; Rosa Sierra; Mary Hernandez; Dominga Jimenez; Janie Britton; Irene Gonzalez; and Olga Gonzalez; her closest friend, Rey Leyton; 14 grandchildren: Monico III, Tony, Ruben, Elizabeth, Jessica, Joseph, Kaylee, Peter, Kristen, Miranda, Zachary, Bonnye, Jakob, and Isan. 7 great-grandchildren: Laney, Chandler, Braylee, Jakala, Sophia, Aaliyah and Gabriel; many nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
