Obituary for Jose R. Martinez
Jose Rodriguez Martinez, long-time resident of Hollis, passed away at the Colonial Manor II Nursing & Care Facility in Hollis, Oklahoma on May 1, 2022. Jose was 94 years old at the time of his death. The family chosen to make arrangements with the Harmon County Funeral Home of Hollis.
Jose was born on October 19, 1927 in Runge, Texas to his parents, Pablo and Delores (Rodriguez) Martinez. He grew up in Mathis, Texas. He met the love of his lie, Antonia Saenz and the two were married in 1948. They shared over 42 years of wedded bliss together before Antonia's untimely death in 1990.
In 1966, Jose made the decision to move to Hollis, OK for work and to also be closer to family. He remained in Hollis for the rest of his life. By trade, Jose was a carpenter. He also had wide experience in contract building, plumbing and finishing out projects. Outside of work, Jose served as a volunteer for the Hollis Salvation Army and was a devoted member of the Templo La Hermosa, where he volunteered his talents making improvements and updates on the church and grounds.
In his spare time, Jose liked fishing, playing and watching baseball, working in the garden and around the yard. Jose loved his family dearly and valued spending time with them the most. He doted on his children and grandchildren, who were the joy of his twilight years. He did his best to provide for them and taught them how to be good, hard working, honest people.
On a personal level, Jose was extremely giving and helpful. He was always there when anyone needed him. He would give you the shirt off his back and enjoyed meeting people. Jose leaves a legacy of kindness, generosity and true concern for others. He will forever be remembered in the hearts of all who knew him.
Welcoming Jose into Heaven's gates are his beloved wife, Antonia Martinez (1990); his son, Jesse James Martinez; his two brothers: Pablo & Jesus Martinez; his sister: Gregoria Salvidar; his granddaughter: Sylvia Luna; his grandson: Jose Salazar; and his sons- in -law: Felipe Salazar and David Luna.
Left to carry on his beautiful legacy are 4 sons: Joe Luis Martinez and his wife, Maria Delores of LaRedo, TX; Juan Manuel Martinez of Hollis, OK; Marcus Eloy Martinez and his wife, Shirley of Hollis, OK; Pablo Israel Martinez and his wife, Alicia of Beeville, TX; 3 daughters: DIana Luna of Altus, OK; Rosie Salazar and husband, Juan of Hollis; and Mary Maria Salazar of Ida Lou, TX. one brother; Atanacio "Nacho" Paiz of Rosenburg, TX; 15 grandchildren; 46 great- grandchildren and 2 great-great grandchildren; as well as host of nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives and friends.
