Services for John W. Weems, 68, of Blair are scheduled for 2:00pm Sunday at the Blair Baptist Church with Rev. Keith Barbee officiating. Burial will follow at the Altus Cemetery. Mr. Weems was born December 14, 1922 in Blytheville, Arkansas to Marion and Lena Collins Weems. He graduated from Marked Tree High School in Arkansas. He married Thelma Roberts on July 14, 1946 in Hernando, Mississippi. Mr. Weems was a retired Master Sargent from the Air Force, and past Vice Commander of the American Legion in Altus. Mr. Weems had served his country in World War II and in Korea. He had been a member of a B-17 aircrew of the 8th Air Force and received the Air Medal. Mr Weems was an active member of the Blair First Baptist Church, an avid golfer, fisherman and bowler. For many years Mr. Weems was a baseball umpire for various levels of that sport. The family has requested that donations be made to the Blair Baptist Church building fun. The family will receive friends from 6pm-8pm Saturday evening at the Lowell-Tims Funeral Home, 1100 East Tamarack Road.
Mr. Weems is survived by his wife Thelma Weems of the home; children, John Wylie Weems Jr. of Frederick, Oklahoma; Dr. Marion Lee Weems of Alexandria, Louisiana; James Collins Weems of, Enid, Oklahoma; Sharon Gayle Erikson, Denber, Colorado; Stephen Mark Weems, Altus; sister regina Smith, Memphis, Tennessee; eleven grandchildren.
