Obituary for John Vordee Caldwell
John V. "Don" Caldwell, age 92 of Eldorado, passed away February 16, 2002 in Quanah, Texas. Services, under the direction of Lowell-Tims Funeral Home, are scheduled for 10:00 a.m., Tuesday, February 19, 2002 at the First Baptist Church of Eldorado. The Rev. Don Ladner will officiate and interment will follow at the Eldorado City Cemetery. Visitation will be from 8:30 a.m. to 9:00 p.m. Monday, February 18, 2002 at the Lowell-Tims Chapel in Eldorado.
Don was born to parents William Harrison Caldwell and Martha Elizabeth Slagle Caldwell on June 1, 1909 at Eldorado, Oklahoma. He was united in marriage to Pearl Spencer Caldwell on October 6, 1933 at Eldorado, Oklahoma. They enjoyed sixty-five years of marriage. Together, Don and Pearl worked on the farm south of Eldorado until their health forced them to move nearer to their children. Don was a lifelong resident of the Eldorado community and a loyal member of the First Baptist Church of Eldorado. In recent years he had lived at the Quanah Nursing Center.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Pearl Caldwell in January of 1996; son, Jackie Caldwell; grandson, Mike Whitfield; brothers, Fred, Arthur and Claude Caldwell; sisters, Dora Welshan and Effie Beach; and his parents.
Don is survived by two daughters, Pat Whitfield of Stinnet, Texas and Benita Braker of Abilene, Texas; sister, Bessie Cofer of Lawton, Oklahoma; sister-in-law, Jewel Weddle of Mangum, Oklahoma; nine grandchildren; six step-grandchildren; twenty great-grandchildren; one great-great-grandchild; many nieces and nephews and a host of other relatives.
In lieu of flowers, the family has asked that donations be made to the American Heart Association or Alzheimer's Association.
