John Philip Martin, 77, died March 19, 2015, in Altus. Funeral services have been scheduled for 2 p.m. Monday, March 23, 2015 at the Lowell-Tims Funeral Home Chapel in Altus, Oklahoma with Rev. Erin Martinez officiating. Burial with full Military Honors will follow at the Altus Cemetery. The family will greet friends at 1:00 p.m. Monday, March 23 at Lowell-Tims Funeral Home.

John Philip Martin was born July 22, 1937 in Detroit, Michigan to John Phillip Martin and Virginia (Spradlin) Martin. John was raised in Catholic Schools his whole youth and onetime considered priesthood. His plans changed when he wanted to see the world and was anxious to leave home and be on his own. John joined the Air Force at the age of 17 years old. He was a radio communication Specialist and absolutely loved his work. He did get to see many great places in the world. John spent time in the Korean War and Vietnam War. He did not speak much about these tours. He was a proud American and Veteran. John retired from the Air Force after 20 years in 1974. He then started working in car sales in 1975 at Paul"s Auto Ranch that started a long career with Wilmes ending in 1998 when he moved to Garland, Texas. John stayed in the Auto business the rest of his life ending his career with Massey Cadillac until his illness. John enjoyed Mustangs and once was an active member of the Shelby American Auto Club. He loved fast cars and fast women and traveling.
He was preceded in death by his parents, one son David Cawthorne and one brother Dennis Martin. John is survived by brother Mike Martin and wife Wendy; daughter, Donna Bonds; three sons Tony Cawthorne, Danny Sewell and Dennis Sewell; granddaughter Crystal Davis and husband Steven; three grandsons Shane Bonds and wife Heather, Jeremy Sewell and James Hose. He was also the proud Great Grandfather of Ashton Bonds, Farrah Bonds, Taylor Davis and Dixon Davis. John also leaves behind a very special friend Juanita Vank and considered her family. John had many, many beloved close friends and co-workers that he also considered Family. He was a quiet kind person who will truly be missed by many.
