Obituary for John Horton Uhles
Mr. John Horton Uhles, age 81, of 620 N. Navajo, died Thursday at a Snyder Nursing Home.
Funeral services have been set for 2:00 P.M., Saturday at Lowell Memorial Chapel, officiated by the Reverend Bill Davis. Burial will be in Altus City Cemetery under direction of Lowell Funeral Home.
Born April 20th, 1894 in Batesville, AR, Mr. Uhles came to Altus in 1947 from Ringling, OK where he was in business. He served as a police officer for the City of Altus from 1953 to 1961 having to retire on account of his health. He was married in 1938 to the former Ollie Alice Plant, who survives him of the home. He was a member of the Emanuel Baptist Church, Past Commander of the American Legion Post prior to moving to Altus, a member of Post #44 Altus American Legion Post, member of the Disabled American Veterans, Past Noble Grand, Odd Fellows Lodge, Veteran of World War I, serving with the American Expeditionary Forces and a member of the Oklahoma Sheriff and Peace Officers Association.
Additional survivors include: one son, Charles Uhles of Antlers, OK; one daughter, Mrs. Julie Hudgins of Altus; one grandchild.
