On May 12, 2023, at Harmon County Hospital, John Henry Kennedy, Jr. was released from his Earthly home and returned to his eternal home in Heaven to be with God.
John was born July 9, 1948, in Childress, Texas to John Henry Kennedy, Sr. and Willie Mae Hill Kennedy.
John attended J.J. Rhoads school and graduated in 1969. During his time in school, he played varsity basketball as a guard and was known for his competitiveness, and determination on the court.
Following high school John was drafted in the United States Army. He worked as a cook in the Army for five year and was deployed to Vietnam.
After returning from his service, he returned to his home in Childress, Texas and began working in the parks and recreation department for over thirty years. In 1988, John married Lula "Sue" Bishop Kennedy in Childress, Texas. They made their home in Hollis, Oklahoma. They married for thirty - five years.
Following John's retirement from the City of Childress, John began this third career a Veterinary- technician for the Veterinary Clinic with Dr. Killian and later Dr. Denton in Hollis, Oklahoma. After he retired, he took his dream vacation to Alaska to camp and fish. He loved to tell stories about the massive trout he caught while in Alaska.
John was a loving caring son, brother, husband, father and Pops / Grandpa. In his free time, he enjoyed fishing, listening to music, collecting baseball cards, and watching his beloved Dallas Cowboys.
A huge part of his life was his faith. John loved his Lord Jesus Christ. He was a deacon in Zion Hill Baptist Church, Hollis, Oklahoma. He was truly a man of God. In his finally moments while in the Er, he was asking for scripture to be recited by his daughter.
Receiving John at heaven's gate by his father, John Henry Kennedy, Sr., mother, Willie Mae Hill Kennedy Brother, D.L. White, sisters, Clara Lee White, Katie Moore, Vannie Mae Green, Mollie Marvin Flowers, Rachel Ann Kennedy, Caroline Kennedy.
He is survived by wife, Lula Sue Kennedy, his children, Carla Brown, Ashley March, Pam Allen, Pastor Tammy Ingram and husband, Thomas, Johnny Bishop, Sharla Cartwright and husband Christopher, Benjamin Hill; eleven grandchildren, one great granddaughter, Aubree Durley; sister, Pat Florence Washington, numerous nieces, nephews, cousins and other extended family members.
The Kennedy family will receive friends from 5:00 p.m. - 7:00 p.m. Friday, May 19, 2023, at Harmon County Funeral Home, Hollis, Oklahoma.
Funeral services will be 1:00 p.m. Saturday May 20, 2023, at Harmon County Funeral Home Chapel, Hollis, Oklahoma.
Graveside services will be 3:00 p.m. Saturday, May 20, 2023, at Childress Cemetery, Childress, Oklahoma.
Services are under the direction Harmon County Funeral Home.
