John Donovan Bloomberg, age 88, of Altus, passed away late Friday evening, November 30, 2007, at Plantatinon Care Center in Altus.
Mr. Bloomberg was born on July 29, 1919, in Frankfort, Kansas to John Albert Benjamin and Beulah May (Davis) Bloomberg. A graduate of Walthena, Kansas, John had successful football career while maintaining a farming job during school. Following graduation, he moved to Dearborn, Missouri where he continued to farm until February of 1942, when he was drafted into the United States Army. During the next two and half years, John served his country in several locations in the Asia-Pacific Theater including two times at Guadalcanal. Earning he Bronze Star, Good Conduct Medal, the APTC Ribbon and the Combat Infantry Badge, he was discharged in October 1944 and returned to Dearborn to farm. After a short time in farming, John began working in the grocery business and continued in that vocation for the next twenty-five years before owning and operating Flavor Maid Donut Shops in three different locations. After retiring in the mid 1990's he moved to Altus where he made his home until his death.
John is survived by tow children, Elizabeth Jean Karr and husband Larry or Colorado Springs, Colorado and John Dwain Bloombreg and wife Terri L. of Headrick Oklahoma; six grandchildren, twelve great grandchildren, five great-great grandchildren; one brother, David Bloomberg and wife Doris of Dearborn, Missouri along with many nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives and friends.
A memorial service for John Donovan Bloomberg will be held at 7 p.m. Tuesday, December 4, 2007, at Grace United Methodist Church with Rev. Geroge Lupton officiating. The family request in leu of flowers donations be made to the John D. Bloomberg Memorial Fund at Grace United Methodist Church. Arrangements are under the direction of Lowell-
