Obituary for John Allen Plummer
John Allen Plummer, 94, died July 6th, 2020 in Altus, Oklahoma. He was born on January 11, 1926 in Emporia, Kansas to John Abraham Plummer and Emily (Hanson) Plummer.
John graduated from Emporia High School in 1944. He served in the Army AirCorp from 1944-46 as a B-24 nose gunner and a P-51 Crew Chief. Upon his return, he worked for the Santa Fe Railroad and then the American Bus Lines as a diesel mechanic. In 1952, he moved to Liberal Kansas and began working for Panhandle Eastern Pipeline Company. On February 26, 1954 he married Carol Ann Fuller in Liberal, Kansas. His job with Panhandle moved him to Shattuck, Oklahoma in 1966, Seiling, Oklahoma in 1968 and then to Alva, Oklahoma in 1971. He retired from Panhandle in 1985. Following his retirement, he owned and managed Plummer Rental Properties.
He was an active member of Alva First United Methodist Church serving on numerous committees. In 2000, John attended a Walk to Emmaus and became actively involved in Kiaros ministry. He served at the Bill Johnson Correctional Center in Alva, the James Crabtree Correctional Center in Helena, Oklahoma as well as the Woods County jail. In 2014, John moved to Altus, Oklahoma where he continued his involvement at the Altus FUMC, the Jackson County Jail and a weekly Men’s Emmaus group meeting.
John's favorite pastimes were sports (especially OU football),
Daily walks at WalMart, and Country and Western dancing. He often mentioned that his greatest blessing was to live long enough to know his grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
John was preceded in death by his wife Carol and his parents.
He is survived by his daughter, Kim Leverett and husband Joe of Altus, Oklahoma; a son Mitch Plummer and wife Gaye of Las Vegas, Nevada; two grandchildren, Sarah Charbonnet and husband Cameron of Dallas, Texas and Austin Leverett and wife Jenny of Altus; and four great-grandsons, Ben Rett and Shepherd Charbonnet of Dallas and Cooper and Luke Leverett
of Altus.
The Plummer family will receive friends from 6:00 p.m. - 7:00 p.m. , Wednesday, July 8, 2020 at Lowell - Tims Funeral Home, Altus, Oklahoma.
Funeral services will be 1:00 p.m., Thursday, July 9, 2020 at the First United Methodist Church in Altus, Oklahoma.
Graveside services with military honors will be 10:00 a.m., Friday, July 10, 2020 at the, Alva Municipal Cemetery, Alva, Oklahoma.
Services are under the direction of Lowell - Tims Funeral Home and Crematory, Altus, Oklahoma.
