Obituary for Joe Thomas Drone
Joe Thomas Drone, age 65 of Elmer, passed away on November 15, 2021. He was born December 1st 1955 in Fairfield, CA. In 1974 he joined the US Marine Corp and served 3 years with a tour in Vietnam as an artillery specialist and electrician. He was an exceptional marksman and was invited to be on US Marine Corp shooting team. Joe married Jackie Kiesow on October 5, 1984 in Altus. He worked as a diesel mechanic and truck driver for the majority of his work years. But he retired from Vernon State Hospital as a mental health worker in December of 2020. He also worked with his son creating decorative concrete projects over the past ten years.
Joe was a member of the Altus Masonic Lodge #62 and Guthrie Scottish Rite where he received his 32nd degree. He was a devout Christian man and an active member of Freedom Church in Altus. Joe loved Harley Davidson motorcycles and rode across America with his Uncle and later in life rode with his Brother and his Son. He loved sitting on the front porch swing visiting with family and friends. He loved to tinker and was the neighborhood Mr. fixit. He would drop what he was doing to help his neighbor at anytime. He was a thinker and could build, create and fix anything. He was an excellent electrician even though he was colorblind and said, ‘don’t put both hands in the box and you won’t get shocked.’
He was preceded in death by his parents, Thomas and Bobbie Drone, and by his brother, David Drone. He is survived by his wife, Jackie Drone, of their home in Elmer. His daughter, Ursula Basaldua and her husband John of Altus, his son Shannon Olson and wife Jenny of Elmer, 4 granddaughters, Adrianna and Caleb Reyes of Altus, Morgan Bailey of Elmer, Zoey Olson of Elmer and Burnell Hand and her husband Rob of Elmer . Burnell was raised by Joe as his own daughter and was his angel baby, and also 1 great grandson, Brody Hand of Elmer. A brother Tim Drone and wife Lori of Anna, Texas, a brother Dan Drone and wife Karen of Roanoke, Texas, sister DeeDee Edwards and husband Joe of Iowa and a sister in law, Meri Drone of Altus. As well as a host of nieces, nephews and relatives and friends.
Joe was known as a son, a brother, a husband and a father. However, his most prided title was, Popa. He loved being a grandpa and loved his grandbabies.
Memorial service will be 12:30 p.m. Saturday, November 20, 2021 at Freedom Church, Altus, Oklahoma.
Services are under the direction of Lowell - Tims Funeral Home and Crematory, Altus, Oklahoma.
