Joe C. Stroud was born September 26, 1901 at Woodbury, Tennessee. He died October 1, 1993 at Bethania Hospital on Wichita Falls, Texas. He married Irene Northam October 3, 1925 at Lubbock, Texas and she preceded him death May 3, 1986.

Joe was a long time resident of Altus and Jackson County having resided here from 1928 to 1989. He owned and operated his own grocery business from 1229-1960. He was a former member of the Elm and Hudson Church of Christ. He was an active Civic Leader in Altus and served as Mayor for several years. He served on the Altus School Board for 20 years and served as the President of the Altus school Board. He was member of the Altus Kiwanis and Lions Club. He moved to Wichita Falls Texas in 1989 and moved his church membership to the to the Faith Village Church of Christ.

Services are scheduled for 10am Monday at the Elm and Hudson Church of Christ. Officiating will be Bill Osborne and Ed Lobaugh. Interment will be in the Altus Cemetery under the direction of Lowell-Tims Funeral Home. The family will greet friends Sunday afternoon from 3 pm to 5 pm.

Mr. Stroud is survived by his children, Jerry J. Stroud of Denver, Colorado; Joan Graham of Wichita Falls, Texas; six grandchildren; Mick Stroud, Tim Stroud, Celia Levonski, Kerry Graham, Susan Willson and Donna Guthrie.

Mr. Stroud was preceded in death by his wife, Irene Northam Stroud, May 3, 1986, parents, sister, Pearl Stacey, brothers Robert L. Stroud and Wiley Stroud.
