Joe I. Felker, age 76, went to be with his Heavenly Father on Thursday, March 12, 2015. He was surrounded by his family.
Joe was born to Clifford I. Felker and Tom Ruth Epps Felker on Nov. 16, 1938 in Sherman, Texas and lived in Whitesboro and Hood Texas before moving to Altus as a child. He graduated Altus High School in 1957, and then went to Altus Jr. College and SWOSU in Weatherford, Oklahoma. His Parents owned Felker's Cafe where Joe helped his dad for many years. Joe later attended Altus Beauty College where he received his Cosmetology and Instructors License. He instructed at the Beauty College for 2 years then joined the United States Navy in October 1961, where he proudly served his country for four and a half years. Coming back to Altus, Joe began to instruct and manage at the Altus Beauty College, later becoming Aladdin Beauty College. Joe later became district Manager for ten years for Aladdin Beauty colleges across Texas, Oklahoma and New Mexico. On June 26, 1962, he married Kay Ballard at Fredrick, Oklahoma and to this union, a daughter, Morgan and a son, Raegan were born. Joe was a member of First Baptist Church, Altus where he served in the television ministry for many years.
He is survived by his wife Kay Felker; daughter and son-in-law Morgan and Steve Weems of Altus, Oklahoma; son and daughter-in-law, Raegan and Holly Felker of Arlington, Texas; a granddaughter, Micah Thurmond and husband Matt of Altus; a grandson, Skylar Weems of Edmond, Oklahoma; two great granddaughters, Memphis and Merritt of Altus; special cousins Jan and Jim Shera of Altus; family friend Donny Lizenbee of Edmond and many other family and friends.
In lieu of flowers, please make contributions to First Baptist Church, Altus Television Ministry or the WOSC Foundation. Also that you take a moment to hug your child, grandchild, friend or loved one or walk in the woods for a moment, an hour or a day. Time waits for no one.
Family visitation will be at Lowell Tims Funeral Home on Sunday, March, 15 from 3:00 to 5:00 p.m. Memorial service will be held at First Baptist Church Altus, OK on Monday, March 16, 11:00 a.m.
