Joe Don Reaser, 56, of Altus, passed away Monday, April 6, 2009, at Jackson County Memorial Hospital in Altus following a courageous battle with cancer.
Joe Don was born February 14, 1953, in Altus to C.W. and Lorene (Buck) Reaser in Altus. He lived most of his life in Jackson County and graduated from Navajo High School in 1971. Joe Don was born into a farm family and always knew that farming was going to be a major part of his life. Except for a few short years after high school when he attended Technical school in Okmulgee, Oklahoma and worked for Public Service Company, he was a farmer. He loved farming with his father, Ham Reaser, and brother, Eddie. Joe was the one who year after year insured all the equipment remained in good working order. He was at his best when faced with a piece of equipment everyone else thought could not be repaired. Joe Don had a gift of being able to see a problem with the equipment and the skill to transform it into a productive piece of farm machinery.
Joe Don married Sherrie Phillips on May 4, 1979, in Altus. He was a family man: a devoted husband and father. They were in his thoughts regardless of where he might be or what he might be doing. He loved taking his family snow skiing in the winter and water skiing in the summer. Joe enjoyed hunting, fishing, and all the activities one would associate with growing up on a farm in Southwest Oklahoma.
Anyone acquainted with Joe knew he was a Christian. It wasn’t known because of talk as much as was his actions and his example. He so visibly lived his life, as the Lord would ask each of us to live ours. He never turned anyone down who needed help. This is one of the things that made him most happy. He never expected, nor would he accept, anything in return. Joe’s friendship was unconditional.
Joe Don was very active in the community and, in addition to farming, worked for the Jackson County Water Company. He was currently serving as president of the Jackson County Water Board. He also served on the board of Headrick Farmers Coop and the Headrick Cotton Gin Board. Joe Don was a faithful member of the First Baptist Church in Altus where he served on the finance committee.
He is survived by his wife, Sherrie Reaser of Altus; one daughter, Lori Reaser of Oklahoma City; one son, Shane Reaser of Altus; one sister, Dixie McReynolds and husband John of Lawton; two brothers, Mac Moser and wife Gale of Yukon, Oklahoma, and Eddie Reaser of Altus; two sisters-in-law, Phillis Findley and husband John of Bakersfield, California, and Vickie Cline and husband Billy of Altus; one brother-in-law, Phillip Phillips of Maryland; numerous nieces, nephews, and many friends.
Joe Don was preceded in death by his parents, C.W. and Lorene Reaser; one son, Kevin Dean Reaser in 1990; one brother, Gary Moser; mother-in-law, Joy Phillips; father-in-law, Phil Phillips, and a sister-in-law, Rosie Moser.

In Lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the First Baptist Church Building Fund in Altus, Oklahoma, or the charity of one’s choice.
The family will receive friends on Wednesday, April 8, from 6:30 to 7:30 p.m. at Lowell-Tims Funeral Home.
Funeral Services for Joe Don Reaser will be held 2:00 p.m., Thursday, April 9, 2009, at the First Baptist Church in Altus with Dr. Jeff Moore and Reverend Madison Clinton officiating. Interment will follow at Altus City Cemetery under the direction of Lowell-Tims Funeral Home.
