MADDOX

Joe Alton Maddox, age 73, of Mangum, passed away Saturday afternoon, April 4, 2009, at Jackson County Memorial Hospital.

Joe was born on July 1, 1935, to John Lafayette and Mona Fay (Alexander) Maddox near Reed, Oklahoma. A 1956, graduate of Reed High School, he began farming and running a service station in Reed shortly after graduation. After marrying Glenda Nichols in 1957, they moved to White Flat for a short time and later to Mangum where he served as a police officer. In the early 1960"s, Joe moved to Jaybuckle where he began farming and ranching until his death. A longtime member of the Rattlesnake Association, Joe enjoyed fishing, hunting, working with his horses and being around animals of any kind. Joe"s entire life was spent within four miles of where he was born.

Preceded in death by his parents, one brother, Murray Maddox and one sister, Neva Daniels, Joe is survived by three sons, Kent Maddox and wife Julie of Frisco, Texas, Ronnie Maddox and wife Terry of magnum and Herman Maddox and wife Karen of Mankins, Texas; seven grandchildren, Mandi Wofford and husband Kent of Wylie, Texas, Melissa Smith and husband Nathan of Plano, Texas, Krystle Carroll and husband Nicholus of Altus, John Lafayette Lafe Maddox of Mangum, Nasha Gibson and husband Dennis of Mankins, Texas, Adam Maddox of Plainview, Texas and Shayla Maddox of Archer City, Texas; five great grandchildren, James Wofford, Bond Smith, Christian Carroll, Mason Gibson and True Gibson; two sisters, Mary Eanes Early of Laramie, Wyoming and Wilda Donson of San Berdino, California; one brother, J.L. Maddox and wife Wilma of Reed along with many nieces, nephews, other relatives and many friends.

Funeral services for Joe Maddox will be at 2 p.m., Wednesday, April 8, 2009, at the Trinity Baptist Church with Pastor James Hopkins, Pastor Herman Foust and Pastor Shawn Laughlin officiating. Interment will follow at the Cave Creek Cemetery under the direction of Greer Funeral Home of Mangum..
