Obituary for Jimmie Ray Smith
Jimmie "Jim" Ray Smith, 65, resident of Mangum passed away following a brief illness. Jim was born March 24, 1953 in Oklahoma City to Jimmie Lee Smith and Betty Jo (Byman) Smith. He was raised and educated in Oklahoma City. In 1975 he enlisted in the United States Navy, where he proudly served his country till 1980. During his time in the Navy he worked in cryogenics. On November 23, 1997 he married the love of his life Patty Smith. Jim wore many hats during his life. He worked for ENJ railroads, was the Men’s Director of Wayside Cross Mission in Aurora, Illinois, and Morning Star Mission, as a construction Surveyor. In 2008 he got his CDLA in hazmat & TWIC transportation license, transporting heavy equipment all over the country. Jim had a passion and love for Jesus Christ, he loved to study his bible, and enjoyed reading about theology. He was a proud member of the Mangum Church of God. In the later years he volunteered at the Mangum senior center and assisted in any way he could.

Jim is survived by his loving wife, Patty Smith; two grandchildren: Kylie Cross and Payton Cooley; his sister Shirley Craig and her husband A. C.; and his pastor Keith Dodd and wife Brenda.

He was preceded in death by his father Jimmie Lee Smith; his mother Betty Jo Smith; Brothers: Danny Smith, Lee Roy Smith; as well as his dog and best friend Tuscan.

The Smith family will be holding a private family graveside with military honors at Fort Sill National Cemetery in Elgin, Oklahoma.

A public memorial service will be announced later.

Funeral arrangements have been entrusted to Greer Funeral Home, Mangum, Oklahoma.
