PAXTON

Jimmie Faye Paxton, age 85, of Mangum, passed away Sunday evening, April 12, 2015, at an Oklahoma City Care Center.

Mrs. Paxton was born in Wichita Falls, Texas on April 26, 1929, to James Marion and Mittie Opal (Blake) Casey. Graduating from Reed School in 1947, she married William Therman Paxton, the love of her life, on July 27, 1946, in Wellington, Texas, and they spent the next sixty-eight wonderful years together before her death. Throughout life, Jimmie was a well-known seamstress, designing her own line of clothing for women (JP Originals) and children (Tam-Tams). She closed the clothing store in 1987. She went to work for the Mangum Star-News in 1988 and continued until her full retirement in 2006. Her column "Senior Scenes" was very popular among the older folks. One of her hobbies was collecting butterflies. If you ever visited her at home she would always make sure you took time to see her vast collection. Jimmie served on the Greer County Board of Health for 44 years, being the longest serving member in Oklahoma History. A devout Christian, Jimmie served as a Vacation Bible School Director for 35 years and for many years, taught Bible Class for children and adults.

Preceded in death by her parents; three sisters, Ida Nadine Casey, Jesse Virginia Howerton-Kirkpatrick and Mittie Ann Casey and three brothers, William Whitfield Casey and Charles Leadell Casey, she is survived by her husband of the home, three children, Wayne Paxton and wife Evelyn of Oklahoma City, Connie Chenoweth and her husband Duane of Oklahoma City and Casey Paxton and wife Karla of Mangum; six grandchildren, Jason, Joshua, Brad, Tim, Tonya and Scott along with seven great grandchildren, many other relatives and friends.

Funeral services for Jimmie Paxton will be at 2 p.m., Thursday, April 16, 2015, at the First Baptist Church with Ken Hamilton officiating. Interment will follow at Roselawn Cemetery under the direction of Greer Funeral Home of Mangum.
