Obituary for Jerry Doyle Chisum
Jerry Doyle Chisum of Altus, OK, passed away peacefully at his home on October 30, 2020. He was a lifetime resident of Altus. Born in Brinkman, OK on April 29, 1936 to Royce Cecil (Tete) and Eva Catherine Chisum.
Jerry was in the US Navy for four years. He was a truck driver and dispatcher at Republic Gypsum before becoming a fireman at the Altus Fire Dept in 1973. He retired after 23 years of service at the fire dept in 1996. At that point in his life, he enjoyed working crossword puzzles, reading, watching old Westerns and hanging out at Friendship Inn drinking coffee with all his friends. Friendship Inn was the only place to eat in Altus, according to him!
He is survived by his daughter, Jerri Duncan and husband Brent of Denton, TX. A son, Dennis Chisum and wife Becky of Sanger, TX. His wife, Shirley Chisum of Norman, Ok; Three step-daughters, Kim Cary and husband Dean of Missouri; Lori Kenney and husband Paul of N Carolina; Belinda Godin of Arizona. Two step-sons, Chris Elledge and wife Christina of Norman; Mark Elledge of Arizona. Fourteen grandchildren: Kelsi McDiffett, Christen Arroyave, Jason Duncan, Billy Chisum, Dylan Chisum, Addison Elledge, Parker Elledge, Libby Elledge, Rachel Godin, Annie Godin, Sarah Bolton, Elizabeth Kenney, Jackson Davis, Peyton Powers, and nine great-grandchildren. He is also survived by one brother, Dwain Chisum and wife Joyce of Altus, Ok.
He is preceded in death by his father, Royce Cecil (Tete) Chisum, his mother Eva Catherine Chisum, one sister Coral Catherine Chisum.
The family will greet friends at visitation on Monday evening, November 2, 2020 from 5:00 pm until 7:00 pm at Lowell-Tims Funeral Home in Altus.
Funeral services will be at 2:00 pm on Tuesday, November 3, 2020 at the Lowell-Tims Funeral Chapel in Altus.
Interment will follow at Altus City Cemetery under the direction of Lowell-Tims Funeral Home Crematory, Altus, Oklahoma.
