Jerry Dale Miller, 73, of Altus, peacefully went into the lord"s hands at his home Saturday, July 18, 2009, after a long illness.
Jerry was born January 18, 1936, in Altus, Oklahoma, to Aubra Clifton and Ruth (Creed) Miller. He married Shirley Bonds May 19, 1956, in Vernon, Texas. Jerry began his employment with AAFES one month after he graduated from high school. He started his career as a receiving clerk at Altus Air Force Base in the main exchange, which at the time was a small tarpaper building. After a stint as a Stockroom Manager, Jerry entered the services career field as a Service Station Manager. He was later promoted and transferred to Ft. Sill, Oklahoma, as the Services Operations Manager. During the following years, he served in a variety of capacities within services at the Alamo Exchange Region headquarters in San Antonio, Texas, Lackland AFB, Texas, South Texas Area, AAFES-Europe in Munich Germany, and Central California Area at former Fort Ord. In 1984, he was transferred to his final assignment as the Area Services Manager at Red River Area Exchange in Bosier City, LA. He retired after 38 years of dedicated service. After his retirement, he and his wife Shirley enjoyed a lovely retirement home in Lake Kiowa, TX. In 2000 due to health reasons they left Texas and moved back to Altus, OK. Jerry liked many things but in particular he loved playing golf, fishing, solving crossword puzzles, especially Sudoku, horseracing, and visiting casinos. He was an avid OU fan and loved spending time with his family.
