Obituary for Jean Ellen Welch
Jean (Jeannie) E. Welch of Altus, OK, formerly of Plymouth, MA and of Huntington Beach, CA passed away on January 20, 2018 at her home with family and friends. She was the daughter of the late John E. Welch, Sr., and Effie M. (Bohannon) Welch formerly of Brighton and Plymouth, MA.
She is survived by her sons, Eddie Heyden of Olustee, OK; Thomas Heyden of Corona, CA; and Paul Heyden of Huntington Beach, CA. Five grandchildren, Sonny Heyden, Sara Jean Heyden, Nathan Heyden, Eddie Heyden, III; and Kenna Miller. She is also survived by her two brothers, John E. Welch, Jr. and his wife Maura of Plymouth, MA; and Thomas Welch also of Plymouth. Two sisters, Anne M. Welch of North Liberty, IA and Theresa McGowan and her husband Mark of Plymouth, MA and many nieces and nephews. She is also survived by close friends Jawanda Neal and family, Charlotte Perry, Kristy Weaver, and many other loyal friends. She was preceded in death by her parents, and two sisters Ellie Colbert of Milford, MA and Pattie MacLeod of Plymouth, MA.
Jeannie was a member of the First Baptist Church of Altus where she also attended The Forever Grace Sunday school class. She loved to spend time with her grandchildren baking, crafting, and gardening. She was an avid sports fan and loved everything Boston. She loved to spend time on her patio tending to her precious garden as well as spending much time with her close friends.
After moving to the area to be closer to her son and grandkids, Jeannie worked as a bookkeeper for the Quartz Mountain lodge and later for the Winters’ in the same role. Work was very important to her, and she was a great example by not viewing work just for earning money, but for finding purpose and the ability to help others, and in this Jeannie continued working all through her illness and up to her very last days.
In lieu of flowers, donations in her memory can be made to the Southwest Oklahoma Cancer Centers Altus location @ JCMH Foundation SWOKCC Altus fund, PO Box 8190, Altus, OK 73522.
The visitation is scheduled for 6:30 - 7:30pm Thursday January 25, 2017 at Lowell- Tims Funeral Home in Altus.
Funeral services for Jeannie are 10:00 am Friday, January 26th, 2018 at the First Baptist Church in Altus, Oklahoma interment will follow at Altus City Cemetery.
