Janet Kay Diltz, at 68, of Altus, passed away early Wednesday morning, January 11, 2017, at her residence, in Altus.

Janet was born in Madera, California on November 2, 1948, to Talma E. and Virginia Marie (Berry) Laird. Moving to Humphreys, Oklahoma, as a child, Janet attended Altus Schools, graduating in 1966. On April 12, 1968, she married the love of her life, Jack Morrison Diltz, and they spent the next forty-eight wonderful years together before her death. Graduating from Southwestern Oklahoma State University in 1970, she began teaching at Central Junior High, in Altus, and later taught at Northeast Junior High after Central burned in 1976. From 1979 until 1989, Janet stayed at home with their two children and in 1989, returned to teaching as the yearbook instructor at Altus High School. Janet later taught gifted art at the Altus Grade Schools and Altus Intermediate School, retiring in 2015. In her spare time, Janet loved to paint, shop and love on her and Jeff"s dogs, but most of all she enjoyed and loved being Ninny to her two grandchildren.

Preceded in death by her parents and father-in-law, Johnnie Diltz, she is survived by her husband, Jack, of the home; two children, Jennifer Tice and husband Scotty of Altus and Jeff Diltz and wife Jera of Altus; two grandchildren, Jayden Benway of Altus and Jordan Benway of Altus; one sister, Judy Watkins and husband Jim of McKinney, Texas; two brothers, Jim Laird and wife Mary of Azle, Texas and Van Melton of Albuquerque, New Mexico; her mother-in-law, Evah Jo Diltz of Altus; Sister-in-law Rebecca and husband Curt Kastner of Manhattan Kansas; Jay Benway, the father of her loving grandchildren, along with many other relatives and many friends.


Funeral services for Janet Diltz will be at 2 p.m., Saturday, January 14, 2017, at the First Baptist Church with Dr. Jeff Moore officiating. Interment will follow at Restlawn Cemetery under the direction of Lowell-Tims Funeral Home of Altus.

The family ask consideration be given in making a love offering, in memory of Janet Diltz, to First Baptist Church of Altus or to the American Cancer Society.

The family will greet friends on Friday, January 13, 2017, from 6:30 until 7:30 p.m., at Lowell-Tims Funeral Home.
