Obituary for James William Vaughan
James "Jimmy" Vaughan, 77, of San Antonio, Texas, formerly of Altus, passed away Tuesday, October 16, 2012, at the Regent Care Blanco Nursing Home in San Antonio.
Jim was born February 5, 1935, in Wellington, Texas, to Cecil and Audrey (Taylor) Vaughan. He attended school during his early years in Childress, Texas. His family then moved to Altus where he finished Elementary, Junior High, and graduated Altus High School in 1953. He attended Oklahoma University and graduated in 1958 with a Bachelor of Business Education. Jim married Kay Snow in June of 1957 in Altus.
Jim always loved many sports as a player or spectator. He taught school in Altus at Falcon Elementary for two years and was the principal there for one year. He later taught Distributive Education from 1979 to 1982 at Childress High School. He eventually taught in three different educational schools in San Antonio. Jim also owned and operated Webb's Photo Studio in Childress, Texas, from 1963 to 1979. He was a member of the Texas Jaycees, Jr. Chamber of Commerce International, and Rotary International. Jim was a faithful member of the Northside Church of Christ in San Antonio.
Preceded in death by his parents, Cecil and Audrey Vaughan, Jim is survived by his wife, Kay Vaughan, of the home in San Antonio; two daughters, Pam Hyde and husband Mark and their daughter Kelsey of San Antonio; Leslie McWhorter and husband Mike and their twin sons, Bryce and Chad of Norman, Oklahoma; sister-in-law, Jeri Snow Wesley and husband Dr. David Wesley of Omaha, Nebraska; one niece, Shannon Maxey and husband Kent and their children, Madison and Mason of Kingswood, Texas. Jim is also survived by other relatives and many beloved friends.
The family will greet friends on Sunday, October 21 at Lowell-Tims Funeral Home from 5:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m.
Funeral Services will be held 11:00 a.m. Monday, October 22, 2012, at Lowell-Tims Chapel with Patrick Brown of Edmond, Oklahoma, officiating.
