James LeMaster Blackwell, 75, died Friday at Wilford Hall Medical Hospital in San Antonio, Texas. Services have been scheduled for Monday, at 10:00 am at the Grace United Methodist with Rev. Chris Tigert officiating. Burial will be in the Ft. sill Cemetery with Full Military Honors. Arrangements are with Lowell-Tims Funeral Home.
Blackwell was born on July 12, 1915 in Whitney South Carolina. He was the son of John F. and Flossie M. Le Master Blackwell. He married Verna Philbrick on September 10, 1942 in Saco, Maine. He was inducted into the Army in 1936 at Ft. Bragg, North Carolina. He served in Europe during World War II and was in the Korean Conflict. He retired from the military in 1962 and entered Civil Service in 1962. He retired from Civil Service in 1983. He was a member of Grace United Methodist Church and a Lion Club member. Mr. Blackwell was preceded in death by his parents, and by a daughter Rebecca Rachel Blackwell.
Mr. Blackwell is survived by his wife Verna Blackwell of Altus, Oklahoma; children, Jams M. Blackwell and Sarah Snell of San Antonio, Texas; David C. Blackwell of Austin, Texas; Thomas J. Blackwell of Austin, Texas; Mark E. Blackwell of Seattle, Washington; Daniel K. Blackwell of Seattle, Washington; Jeffery S. Blackwell and Denise of Tulsa, Oklahoma; Deborah E. Blackwell of Stillwater, Oklahoma; Bonnie McAskill and John of Altus, Oklahoma; brothers John R. Blackwell of Washington, D.C.; Marvin E, Blackwell of Spartanburg South Carolina; sisters Elizabeth Hancock of Denham Springs, Louisiana; Martha Lane McAskill of Columbia, South Carolina; Mary Wellman of Norman, Oklahoma; three grandchildren, John Blake McAskill, Betsy Laane Mc Askill, Dayna Blackwell.
