James L. Smith age 56 of Altus, Oklahoma died May 7, 1969 at Memorial Hospital in Altus. He was born September 20, 1912 in Duke, Oklahoma to Marvin and Cora E. (Ballou) Smith. He married Ladine Archer September 29, 1940 in Cheyenne, Oklahoma. He had been a resident of Altus since 1964. James was the manager of the Bunker Hill Anthony's Department Store. He was a member of the First United Methodist Church, Masonic Lodge and the Lions Club.
Funeral services for James L. Smith are scheduled for 10:00am Friday, May 9, 1969 in the First United Methodist Church, Altus, officiated by Rev. Joe Frederick and Rev. Don Calbert. Burial will follow in the Altus Cemetery under the direction of Tims Funeral Home.
James L. Smith is survived by his wife Ladine of the home; one son, Steve Smith, Oklahoma State University, Stillwater, Oklahoma; one daughter Jama Sue Smith, Oklahoma State University, Stillwater, Oklahoma; three sisters, Mrs. Sallie Warren San Bernadino, California; Louise Dixon, Glendale, California; Elma Naylor Panhandle, Texas; one brother Iral Smith, Pampa, Texas; preceded in death by brother, Maurice Smith.
