Obituary for James L. Cox
James (Jimmy) Lee Cox was born December 2, 1942 to John (Jim) Coleman Cox and Evelyn Bernice Cox in Granite, Oklahoma.
He passed from this life December 2, 2020 at the age of 78 years.
Jimmy grew up on the family farm east of Mangum and attended school at City View School. After graduation he entered the National Guard where he spent the next 6 years. He was a mechanic, engine operator for the City of Mangum Light Plant until his retirement.
While living on the farm he was an avid model builder. He would build airplanes, trucks, cars, army tanks and had them placed all over a separate house next door to the home. There would be airplanes hanging from the ceiling. Tanks and trucks on any flat surface depicting a battle or event that had taken place in history. He continued building models into his later years with every type of diorama set up all over his house. With each diorama there would be two or three movies relating to the particular theme that he had in mind. There was every theme imaginable from World Wars, Vietnam, Westerns, Elvis Presley, death of Christ, to modern gang wars. He also had gotten into Remote Control vehicles. He would build new bodies for the vehicle in the form of army tanks, combines and trucks.
Jimmy was also a science fiction enthusiast and had even written a story that was published in a book of short stories by the local book club at the Mangum City Library.
Jimmy was preceded in death by his parents, John (Jim) and Evelyn Cox, a sister, Mary Jo that passed away at age 6, a sister Betty Adams. He is survived by seven nieces and nephews.
