James Kenneth Lewis, age 87, of Altus, passed away early Tuesday morning, May 30, 2017, at Jackson County Memorial Hospital.
Mr. Lewis was born in Altus, Oklahoma on January 26, 1930, to Arlie Mitchell and Maggie Juliette (Gilmore) Lewis. On July 24, 1961, he married the love of his life, Toy Ann Thurmond and they spent forty-six wonderful years together before her death on September 18, 2007. A World War II Navy veteran, Kenneth worked as a carpenter, for Thurmond and Thurmond Custom Harvesting, drove a truck for Republic Gypsum, Southwest Metal and Trade and Jewett Scott Trucking. In 1985, Kenneth retired and enjoyed drinking coffee with his friends at McDonalds.
Kenneth is preceded in death by his wife, Toy Ann Thurmond Lewis; his parents Arlie and Maggie Lewis; a nephew, Mike Lewis and sister-in-law, Wilma Wright Lewis. He is survived by two sons, James Kenneth (Kenny) Lewis, Jr. of Altus and John Christopher Lewis, of Norman; one brother, Arlie Lewis and wife Thelma of Amarillo, Texas; one sister Sharon Cain and husband Jim of Jefferson City, Tennessee; two brothers-in-law, John N. Thurmond and wife Gail and Keith Thurmond and wife Jane of Altus and many other family and friends, a special friend John L. Anstead and fur baby, Callie.
Graveside services for Kenneth Lewis will be held at 10 a.m., on Friday, June 2, 2017, at the Altus City Cemetery with Pastor Doug Altom officiating. Services are under the direction of Lowell-Tims Funeral Home, of Altus.
