Obituary for James Byron Elam
James Byron Elam, 78, resident of Willow, Oklahoma passed away on March 14, 2021 in Lawton, Oklahoma. James was born on October 16, 1942 to James and Nettie (Tyra) Elam in Lawton, Oklahoma. James joined the United States Army in 1964 and was stationed in Germany until his tour ended in 1965. He then transferred to the USAR stationed out of St. Louis, Missouri until January 1970. Once James’ time in the military was over, he took up work as a carpenter. He worked for his father’s roofing company until he became employed by the Fort Sill Director of Public Works, carpenter shop. He retired from Civil Service in 2004 to move to Willow, Oklahoma to care for his Mother and later his brother Kenneth. James enjoyed fishing, and making his own lures, working on, and riding his motorcycle. In his younger years, James rode with the Galloping Goose Motorcycle Club. He loved guns and often competed in black powder shoots. James made his own ammo. James’ true passion was his family. Anytime anyone needed help, you could always find James lending a helping hand. He was interested in his family roots and history. He loved learning about his ancestors.
James is preceded in death by his parents; Brothers, Kenneth Elam and infant Carlos Elam; Sisters, Evelyne Hodges and Kathy Elam.
Left to honor his memory is his chosen son, John White, of Lawton, Oklahoma; Sisters, Alleyne Conely and family of Tecumseh, Oklahoma, Merlyne Elam of Tecumseh, Oklahoma. Numerous nieces, nephews, other family members and special friends.
