In cherished memory of Jackie Ross Jenkins, who departed from us on May 6, 2024, in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma, at the age of 80. Jackie was born on September 5, 1943, in Mangum, Oklahoma, to James Leo Jenkins and Naomi “Sal” Jenkins. A proud graduate of City View High School, Class of 1961, he honorably served his country in the United States Navy following his graduation. Jackie entered into matrimony with Linda Boyd in May 1969, and their love endured until Linda’s peaceful passing in 2020.
Throughout his illustrious life, Jackie held various esteemed roles, notably serving the City of Mangum in multifaceted capacities, including animal control, fire department, golf course management, and as the revered Chief of Police until his retirement in 2011. His dedication to upholding the law continued as he proudly served as a United States Marshal, earning respect even from those on the other side of the law. In 2019, Jackie assumed the esteemed position of Sheriff of Greer County, diligently serving until his well-deserved retirement in March 2023. Jackie’s commitment to his duty was unwavering, and he took great pride in mentoring younger officers and deputies, imparting his wisdom and experience to future generations.
Beyond his professional achievements, Jackie found solace and joy in the simple pleasures of life, particularly in the serenity of hunting, fishing, and immersing himself in the wonders of the great outdoors. Renowned for his affable nature and quick wit, Jackie had an unparalleled gift for bringing laughter to all those fortunate enough to cross his path.
Jackie Ross Jenkins leaves behind a profound legacy of service, laughter, and unwavering dedication to his community. His kindness, humor, and unwavering commitment to justice will forever be cherished and deeply missed by all whose lives he touched.
Jackie is preceded in death by his parents and wife, Linda Jenkins.
Left to honor his loving memory are his sons, Tony Jenkins and wife Barbara, Shane Jenkins and Shawn Jenkins; Daughter, Shelly Mullens and husband Terry; Sisters, Sharon Williams, and Cathearine Jenkins-Burton; Grandchildren, Tonya Williams, Lindsey Jenkins, Tyler Jenkins, Cody Jenkins, Pacen Jenkins Jonathan Cooksey, Heath Mitchell, Jared Mitchell, Elissa Roberts, Halie Mullens, Kyle Mullens, Ty Mullens, Shacie Herrera, and Kylie Petzold; Twenty Great Grandchildren, and a host of extended family members and friends
