Obituary for Jackie LeRoy Griffith
Jackie LeRoy Griffith, a longtime resident of Mangum, Oklahoma, passed away on December 2, 2024, in Oklahoma City after a brief illness at the age of eighty-one years old.
Jackie was born on August 18, 1943, in Granite, Oklahoma, to Lawrence Everett Griffith and Desi Naomi (Allen) Griffith. He was raised in Mangum and Granite, where he attended school and graduated from Centralvue High School High School in 1961. Following high school, Jackie continued his education at Western College in Altus, Oklahoma, before enlisting in the United States Navy in 1965. He served as a computer engineer and achieved the rank of Petty Officer First Class, stationed in Washington, D.C., and Langley, Virginia, until his honorable discharge in 1969.
After his service, Jackie worked in the private sector, first for Fast Tax in Dallas, Texas, and later for Frito-Lay, also in Dallas, where he worked as a computer engineer for both companies. He also worked on a special project with Herman Lay, planting potatoes north of Pilot Point, Texas, for Frito-Lay. In addition to his work in the corporate world, Jackie spent over 20 years as a dedicated truck driver for Texas Mail Service, delivering mail from Dallas to Abilene. "Neither snow nor rain nor heat nor gloom of night stays these couriers from the swift completion of their appointed rounds". He also worked for Jewett Scott Trucking as well as American Gypsum. He loved the open road and the serenity that could be found in trucking.
A lifelong member of the Church of Christ, Jackie was baptized at a young age and remained committed to his faith throughout his life. He loved God, Jesus, and his family deeply. In his free time, Jackie enjoyed hunting and spending time outdoors with his children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren, who were always his top priority.
