Obituary for Jack Stephen Cossey
Jack Stephen Cossey departed for his Heavenly Home on December 14, 2020, at the age of 85. He passed at St. Anthony’s hospital, Oklahoma City, OK.

Jack was born in Marlow, OK April 16, 1935 to Kenneth Cossey and Maurine (Ferguson) Cossey. He attended Elk City High School, graduating in May 1953. After graduating, he enlisted in the Navy. He served as a radioman on a destroyer in the Sea of Japan during the Korean War, before being stationed back in the fleet at San Diego, CA. He married his high school sweetheart, Betty Jean (Turpin) Cossey on June 6, 1954, in Yuma, AZ. They established their home in San Diego, until Jack concluded his Naval Service. After leaving the Navy, they returned to Elk City, while he attended the Southwestern Oklahoma State University School of Pharmacy. After Jack graduated, they moved to Mangum, OK and he started his pharmacy career. Through his 59-year career as a registered pharmacist, he worked at Moad Drug Store, Medical Center Pharmacy and Bratton Drug. Jack dedicated his life to serving his Church and community. He was a member of the Presbyterian Church of Mangum from 1961 through its closure. He served his Church in many ways, from the simplest tasks of printing bulletins on an old printing press, delivering sermons in the absence of a Pastor, and as an Elder to provide support and direction to the Ministry. Along with his belief in service to the Church, Jack believed in service to community. He served as a Rattlesnake Derby Director from the early 1960’s forward, as a City Councilman and Chamber of Commerce president, was a 3-term Mayor of Mangum and served within several other community-based groups.
Jack enjoyed fishing, hunting and spending time with his family and friends.
Jack was preceded in death by his parents and his loving wife, Betty.
He is survived by his son, David of Edmond, OK; his daughter Donna Bull and husband Larry of Mangum, OK; his son Don of Edmond, OK; his son Doug and wife Libby of Olustee, OK; six grandchildren, Amber (Bull) Diaz and husband Gene of Chickasha, OK; Abby Bull of Chickasha, OK; Madison Cossey of Quincy, WA; Jacob Cossey of Oklahoma City, OK; Justin Cossey of Edmond, OK; Joshua Cossey of Olustee, OK; two great-grandchildren, Finley and Jacelyn Diaz, both of Chickasha, OK.

In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Shortgrass Rattlesnake Association in Mangum, Oklahoma or to the First United Methodist Church of Mangum.

The family has requested all those attending the funeral service to wear a mask and maintain social distancing.
