Jack Dempsey Stewart, age 85, of Lawton and formerly of Altus, passed away Saturday afternoon, December 14, 2013, at Comanche County Memorial Hospital, in Lawton.
Mr. Stewart was born in Waurika, Oklahoma on March 24, 1928, to Albert and Maude (O"Neil) Stewart. After graduating from Waurika High School in 1946, he joined the United States Army where he proudly served his country. While in the Army, he was introduced to Dorothy Imogene Walden and they were married on July 24, 1954, and spent the next forty-three wonderful years together before her death in 1997. In 1959, they moved to Olustee and shortly thereafter, they moved to Altus where Jack worked for the William E. Cameron Lumber Company and later for Rounds & Porter Lumber Company. In 1965 he began working for Civil Service at Altus Air Force Base, where he spent the next thirty-three years, retiring in 1998. In his spare time, Jack enjoyed playing dominoes at the Senior Citizen Center, fishing, walking the reservoir and eating with Deborah every day.
Preceded in death by his parents; his wife; a baby girl in 1957, two brothers, Joe Stewart and Sam Stewart and two sisters, Mary Sybil Johnson and Annie Hutto, Jack is survived by one daughter, Deborah Hill of Altus; three grandchildren, William Goley and wife Amy of Edmond, Andrew Wright and wife Natasha of Edmond and Tyler Hill of Altus; four great grandchildren, Baylee, Shelbee, Audree and Braedyn along with many other relatives and friends.
Funeral services for Jack Stewart will be at 10 a.m., Wednesday, December 18, 2013, at Lowell-Tims Funeral Home Chapel with Dr. Jeff Moore officiating. Interment will follow at Altus City Cemetery under the direction of Lowell-Tims Funeral Home of Altus.
The family will greet friends at Lowell-Tims Funeral Home on Tuesday, December 17, 2013, from 6 until 8 p.m.
