Obituary for Jack Baucum
Jack Baucum, age 84, of Altus, Oklahoma passed away Wednesday, December 16th, 1998 at Jackson County Memorial Hospital. He was born August 6th, 1914 at Altus, Oklahoma to the late J. E. and Ola (McSpedden) Baucum.
Jack served in the U. S. Army during World II as a Staff Sergeant. On August 10, 1947, in Vernon, Texas he and Kathryn V. Baucum were united in marriage. Jack graduated from Altus High School and attended Altus Junior College. He was an active member of the American Legion where he received his highest rank as District Commander, he was also a member of the VFW. Jack was an All-State Football Player when he attended school in Altus. He coached football at Eugene Field Elementary; Jack was very active in the Altus Alumni, the Altus All Sports Association and was one of the founders of the Jackson County Athletic Hall of Fame.
Jack worked for over 30 years with the United States Postal Services. He was a longtime member of the First United Methodist Church.
Funeral Services are scheduled for Friday, December 18, 1998 at 2:00 p.m. in the Lowell Tims Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Ken Pate officiating. Burial will follow in the Altus City Cemetery under the direction of Lowell Tims Funeral Home.
Survivors include: his wife Kathryn Baucum of the home in Altus; one sister, Norine Wright of Joplin, MO; three nieces, Judy Wright of Joplin, MO, Sue Donahoe and husband Tom of Muskogee, OK and Barbara Voltroth and husband Bob of Abilene, TX; one nephew, Tommy Thompson and wife Becky of Broken Arrow, OK; one sister-in-law, Marj Baucum of Abilene, TX.
He is preceded in death by his parents, J.E. and Ola (McSpedden) Baucum; two sisters, Ernestine Baucum and Jo Thompson; two brothers, J.E. Baucum, Jr and James Baucum.
