Obituary for J.L. Smith
J.L. Smith Jr., 67, of Mangum, Oklahoma passed away on February 16, 2022, at the city hospital in Mangum. The family has made arrangements with Greer Funeral Home in Mangum.
Jay was born to Jay and Bonnie (Jordan) Smith in Clinton, Oklahoma on February 10, 1955. He grew up in the Cordell, Oklahoma area. Jay graduated high school and attended college for a year before switching career paths. Jay went on to become a certified welder for vehicle body work after completing a 2-year program at Vo-Tech. He dedicated most of his work life to the auto body and mechanics arena, finally retiring in 2016.
Jay married the love of his life, Cindy on March 24, 1978, in Cordell,Oklahoma. This blessed marriage spanned 43 years and 11 months and resulted in the birth of three sons: James, Johnathan and Justin.
Jay was passionate about cars and how they performed. In his spare time, he busied himself with building hotrods and going to car shows. Jay was also a devoted husband and family man. He enjoyed quiet times fishing with his wife, spending time with his family, and being simply grandpa to his grandkids. His smile, wisdom, and advice will forever be remembered.
He is preceded in death by his Mother; Granddaughter, Sommer Johnson.
Left to honor his memory are his father, Jay Leo Smith; his three sons: James Rea, Johnathan Smith, and Justin Smith; one brother: Johnny Smith; his sisters: Bonnie Jean Whorton, Sarah Perryman, Rebekah Chester; his grandchildren: Jaydon Smith, Jessie Smith, Emily Smith, Austin Smith, Peyton Smith, Jacob Rea, and Jason Rea; ss well as numerous extended family members, neighbors, and friends.
