Obituary for J. B. McAlexander
J.B. McAlexander, 95, of Mangum, passed away Wednesday, January 9. 2019 at Grace Living Center in Mangum. J.B. was born on November 4, 1923 to Walter Lee "Buck" and Agnes (Harbour) McAlexander at the family home near Jaybuckle, Oklahoma. He graduated from Reed School. J.B. married Opal Nell Dollar on January 24, 1949 in Vernon, Texas. She preceded him in death on February 5, 2009, shortly after celebrating their 60th wedding anniversary. He always said, "we had a good life." They began their married life together in Mangum, then moved to Eastview community in 1950 where he remained until moving to Grace Living Center in 2015. J.B. was elected to the Board of Directors for Harmon Electric Association where he served for 37 years. He was the President from 1985-1993. While on the board, J.B. represented Harmon Electric Association on the board of Oklahoma Association of Electric Cooperatives for 9 years and Western Farmers Electric Cooperative for 14 years, where he also served as president for 4 years. J.B. worked in these positions faithfully and diligently. He and Opal Nell especially enjoyed the friendships made during those years.
J.B. is preceded in death by his loving wife, Opal Nell McAlexander, son, Mark Wade, his parents, siblings; Walter Lee McAlexander, Exa Culpepper, Opal Mayfield, Rosa Lee Pruett, E.H. (Sam) McAlexander, Walter Gene (Shorty) McAlexander and son-in-law Dwayne Wynn.
J.B. is survived by his children; Karen Wynn of Mangum, Oklahoma, Debbie Dean and husband Jerry of Hammon, Oklahoma, Mike McAlexander and wife Dusty of Mangum, Oklahoma. Grandchildren; Greg Wynn, of Willow, Oklahoma, Kathie Wynn, of Mangum, Oklahoma, Whitney and husband Chris Snow, of Mangum, Oklahoma, Kara and husband Aaron Kauk, of Sayre, Oklahoma, Dena Hough, of Elk City, Oklahoma, Jet McAlexander, of Mangum, Oklahoma; Step-grandchildren, DD and husband Scott Kelley, of Elk City, Oklahoma, and Kami and husband Rick Williams of Elk City, Oklahoma. Great-Grandchildren; Lexi and Joey Hough, Allie and Tessa Snow, and Wyatt Compton; Step Great-Grandchildren; Chazden and Corban Blankenship, Austin and wife Laci Maine, Toni Stowe. Sisters-in-law; Winona McAlexander, June Hogg, Betty and husband Gary Ellis. Many nieces and nephews and other relatives, and friends that include the residents and loving staff of Grace Living Center.
