Herbert C. Fellers, age 85, passed away Thursday, August 20, 2009 in Humble, Texas. He was born October 10, 1923, in Macgregor, Texas. Herbert graduated from Altus High School in 1941 and while working in Altus Drug Store, met and later married Constance Doughty of Martha, Oklahoma, on August 2, 1942.
In 1942, Herbert attended Civil Pilot Training at Altus College prior to joining the U.S. Air Corp. After completing his training at Lubbock Army Air Field, he continued his service as a pilot flying C-47 cargo transport in the 10th Army Air Corp in India. he flew supplies from India through the Burmese mountains to southwest China to the allies. this route was known as the "Burma Hump".
In 1945, he moved to Houston, Texas, Herbert attended the University of Houston and received his degree n accounting. He worked for Arthur Anderson Accounting, Houston Natural Gas, later to be known as Enron, before retiring in 1983.
Being musically inclined, he joined a western swing group and played banjo, guitar, trombone, and trumpet. He was later enshrined in the Texas Western Swing Hall of Fame.
Herbert is survived by sons; Charles Fellers and Robert Fellers; grandchildren; Steve Fellers and wife Sandra, David Fellers and wife Magan, Gary Fellers and wife Wendy, Anisa Fellers, Greg Fellers and wife Samantha, and Kira Fellers; great-grandchildren;; Brandon, Landon, Eric, Courtney, Lexey, Kelledie, Mitchell, Michael, Michelle, and Mackenzie; and one great-great granddaughter, Carmen.
