LIPPARD

Henry Loyd Lippard, 92, died at Grace Living Center in Mangum, Oklahoma on February 15, 2017. He was born in Reed, Oklahoma on November 22, 1924 to Wade and Jessie Lippard. He was next to the youngest of eight children, some of whom had been born in Statesville, North Carolina before his parents moved to Greer County to begin farming.

On December 30, 1951 he married Margie Lott and moved to a farm in the White Flat community west of Mangum. He served in the Navy during World War II, spending the majority of his time at Pearl Harbor, assisting with the clean-up and rebuilding efforts.

Henry farmed with his brother Fred for many years until Fred"s death in 1986. Henry farmed for several more years while he also continued his job as a rural letter carrier.

Farming didn"t leave much time for hobbies but Henry had a passion for barbershop quartets. For many years he and his singing partners enjoyed practicing and performing locally. After worn out knees and shoulders forced him to retire from farming, he developed a passion for croquet. Deciding that it was time to quit tending the vegetable garden at the back of their house, Henry created his own sand croquet court, complete with shade awnings and benches for seating. Never one to shy away from a hot Oklahoma day, he arranged many matches with friends and was sure to provide a five gallon jug of ice water to keep everyone hydrated.

Henry and Margie didn"t have biological children but they were parents and grandparents to many. Their house was always the "get-away" for many nieces, nephews, and the children of friends. They were long-time members of the First United Methodist church and attended faithfully until their health became an issue. For many years Henry sang in the choir, continuing to enjoy his passion for good four-part harmony.

He was preceded in death by his wife of almost 65 years, Margie, who died last October. He was also preceded in death by his parents, four brothers, Jake Lippard, Fred Lippard, C. J. Lippard and Harold Lippard, and three sisters, Katherine McKinnis, Edith Gilliam, and Angie Long.

He is survived by many nieces and nephews and a large number of friends and acquaintances.

Special thanks to the staff at Grace Living Center and to Jackson County Hospice for their care and compassion.

Memorial services for Henry Lippard will be at 10:30 a.m., Saturday, March 25, 2017, at the First United Methodist Church, in Mangum.
