Obituary for Glenn Pascal Copeland
Glenn was born on May 9, 1930 in Ada, OK to Chamberlain Cleo (Coonie) Copeland and Irene Wilson Copeland. He passed away December 15, 2012, at the age of 82. He was surrounded lovingly by family and friends.
Glenn came to Altus from the Mangum area in 1944 and graduated from Altus High School in 1948. He was in the Navy and Naval Reserves. He served on the USS Missouri during the Korean Conflict and received the Korean Service Medal and two Stars of China Service Medals. Upon returning to Altus, Glenn worked for the United States Postal Service from 1954 to 1964. In 1964 he entered into private business with his brother Gene Copeland and they operated Copeland Brother"s Oil Company on North Main until 1998.
Glenn was a sports enthusiast who enjoyed fishing, baseball and football. He played baseball until he was 38 years old. He taught young marrieds for many years at the Altus First Baptist Church where he made the "Praying Hands" for the Prayer Room. Glenn also made many other stain glass pieces for family and friends. Each year during AHS Alumini weekend his house was a meeting place for those graduating in his class and those of his children and friends. Glenn was an active member of the Altus Masonic Lodge #62 where he was a 32nd Degree Mason, Past Worshipful Master, Jr and Sr Warden, Sr Deacon and Chaplain of the lodge and just received his 50 year Service Pen in April of this year
Glenn was preceded in death by his parents, his wife, Mary Jo Copeland and his brother, Gene Copeland.
He is survived by his wife, Linda Copeland, of the home, two sons, Boone Copeland and wife Kimberly of Lawton, and Rocky Copeland of Mustang, a step-son Jay Holland and wife Christina of Mustang, and a daughter Kelly Law of Moore, Ok; grandchildren Casey Copeland, Jonathan Copeland, Miranda Uranga, Carter Holland, Karissa Heron, Melissa Bradley, Jordan Law and Micah Peel and four great-grandchildren, a niece and nephew, Glenda Gee and Mark Copeland and countless family members and friends.
In lieu of flowers, memorial gifts may be made to the Integris Baptist Burn Center in OKC, JCMH Hospice, Oklahoma Blood Institute or a charity of your choice.
Funeral services have been scheduled for 2:00 pm, Wednesday, Dec. 19, 2012 at Lowell-Tims Chapel with Rev. Jeff Moore officiating. Interment will follow in the Altus City Cemetery under the direction of Lowell-Tims Funeral Home.
The family will receive guests at Lowell-Tims Funeral Home on Tuesday evening from 6:30 - 7:30 pm.
