Obituary for Gladys Guffin
Gladys Guffin was born to Euna Francis and Henry Guffin February 13, 1904 in Altus, Oklahoma.
After her mother's death in 1904, she lived with her grandparents, John and Jane Guffin in Duke. She moved back to Altus in 1920.
She graduated from Altus High School in 1921. She attended Teacher Training College and received a two year teacher certificate in 1922. She taught sixth and seventh grades at Victory Schools 1922-23 and seventh grade at Olustee 1923-24.
She then attended Business College in Altus. She was secretary for Virgil Gibbons for many years and for nine years was office manager of Brumley Chevrolet. She retired after working for Garnett Loan Company for eight years, then continued working part time several years for Federal Land Bank.
She was a member of the first United Methodist Church.
Preceding her in death were her parents, three sisters and one brother.
Survivors include two nephews, Lewis Crittenden of Oklahoma City, John and Shirley Guffin of Chickasha, sister-in-law, Roxie Guffin of Chickasha, one great nephew, John and Susan of Germantown, TN, two great nieces, Anne and Tony Montano of San Francisco, California, Anne Guffin of Oklahoma City, a cousin, Patsy and Bill Duckworth of Altus,and a host of friends.
Grave side services, under the direction of Lowell-Tims Funeral Home, are set for 11:00am on Thursday at the Altus City Cemetery.
