Obituary for George Lowe Roach

George Lowe Roach, age 88, of Mangum, Oklahoma, passed away Friday afternoon, January 23, 2026, at Mangum Regional Hospital in Mangum.

George was born in Mangum, Oklahoma, on January 19, 1938, to George and Aline Roach. He attended school in Mangum and graduated from Mangum High School in 1956. He was a proud member of the Mangum Alumni. George’s first “real job” was working the soda fountain at the local drugstore. This job sparked his interest in the medical field and eventually led to a lifetime career as a pharmacist. On February 14, 1960, George married his best friend and love of his life, Peggy Brooks, and they spent 50 wonderful years together. Early in their marriage, they lived in several places while George served in the military. These locations included Wichita Falls, Midwest City, and eventually Weatherford, where he attended pharmacy school. In 1964, he earned his degree from Southwestern Oklahoma State University College of Pharmacy, later receiving his Doctorate Degree. George began his pharmacy career in Sayre but moved to Mangum in 1967, where they made their home and raised their children. George worked as a pharmacist at Bratton Drug but quickly began a career as the pharmacist at Mangum City Hospital, where he worked until 1984. In 1984, George began working at the Oklahoma State Reformatory as the pharmacist. In the early 1990s, he transitioned into the role of regional medical director, retiring in 2000. In November 2004, he returned to Mangum Hospital, serving as the pharmacist and remaining in that role until December 2019. George was a faithful member of the Mangum Church of Christ, where he served as an elder for several years. He was a collector of all things and took great pride in helping those working on projects by providing items that could not be found anywhere else. George was an avid fan of music and was seldom seen not sporting his Levis and loafers. George was a true man of “class” and was always dressed for the occasion.

Preceded in death by his wife, Peggy Roach; both of his parents; brother Griff Roach; brothers-in-law Glendon Brooks and Bob Brooks and wife Rosa, sister Lazana Hubbard and husband Willard.

He is survived by three children: Michael Roach of Mangum, Oklahoma, and daughter-in-law Kim Haas of Elk City, Oklahoma; Jeffery Roach and wife Jana of Franklin, Tennessee; and Georganna Lively and husband Micky of Mangum; seven grandchildren: Misty Johnson of Elk City; Rachel McPherson and Shawn of Elk City; Bennett Roach, Saylor Roach, and Marina Roach of Franklin, Tennessee; Lauren Lively and Eric Harris of Oklahoma City; and Madilynn Lively of Guthrie; four great-grandchildren: Logan Johnson, Jace Johnson, Ciarra Johnson, and Harley and Kelton Scheidemantel of Elk City; great-grandchildren Junie Harris, Adriel Estrada, and Adalyn Johnson; one sister, Rita Dearmon, and husband Al of Oklahoma City; sister-in-law Dora Brooks of Oklahoma City; and special friend Kay Hamilton and her family, along with many nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives, and numerous friends.
