FOSTER

Genevra Adelaide Foster, age 101, of Granite, Oklahoma passed away Monday afternoon, January 19, 2015 at Quartz Mountain Medical Center in Mangum.

Mrs. Foster was born in Leedey, Oklahoma on January 11, 1914 to Arthur and Flora (Keen) Smith. They moved to Elk City and she graduated from Elk City High School in 1931. After attending Oklahoma University for two years, she transferred to Panhandle State University, in Goodwell, Oklahoma where she received her Bachelor"s degree. It was there she met the love of her life, Thaddeus Mathewson Foster. They were married on August 18, 1936 in Erick, Oklahoma and spent the next twenty-seven wonderful years together before his untimely death. They started their teaching careers in Colorado where Genevra taught first through sixth grade and Thad taught seventh through twelfth grade. Later they moved to Sweetwater, Oklahoma for five years and then returned to Greer County on a farm southeast of Mangum where Thad taught at City View and Granite and Genevra stayed home to be with her children. The family moved to Granite in 1949. After spending 11 wonderful years in Granite, the family moved to Lawton, Oklahoma in 1960 where Genevra began teaching again. With Thad"s death in 1963, Genevra continued teaching in Lawton, until her retirement in 1976. For the next few years, Genevra traveled to many different locations until her eyesight began to fail. She moved to Granite in 1999 where she lived until her death. In Granite, she enjoyed going to the Senior Citizen Center, attending church, listening to books and spending time with family and friends.
