Petey was born in Walters, Oklahoma on May 1, 1936, to Robert and Ruth Lee (Dickerson) Smith. She was the seventh child born in the Allen family. She was raised and educated in Walters, Oklahoma. Petey baptized and excepted Jesus Christ as her Lord and savior at the Walters First Baptist Church where her grandfather Reverend Oscar Seldon Dickerson served as pastor. Upon graduation from high school Petey attended nursing school at Western Technology Center, Burns Flat, Oklahoma. She worked at Jackson County for many years as an Lpn working all over the hospital. She was known as a highly skilled and compassionate nurse who always put the well-being of her patients before anything else.
On May 16, 1954, in Amarillo, Texas Petey married Richard Allen. They were blessed with five children, Louise, Connie, Jack, Vicky, and Richard, The young Allen family had their home in Altus, Oklahoma. They enjoyed fishing, hunting, and traveling. Together they traveled all over the United States, Canada, and Mexico.
Petey was a loving Wife, devoted Mother, Sister, but her favorite title was Granny. She relished every moment with her grandkids. Petey loved to make them quilts, afghans, and handmade dolls with of course hand made clothes. As skilled as she was in the domestic arts she was an accomplished hunter who never missed a shot, could skin a fish as quickly as any fisherman, and was a pretty good shade tree mechanic. Petey was truly the definition of a pioneer woman.
Preceding Petey in death were her father, Robert Smith; her mother Ruth Lee Dickerson Smith; six siblings, her daughter-in-law, Shawna Allen and her beloved husband Richard Allen.
