Obituary for Gene Edward Miller
Gene Edward Miller, a lifelong resident of Mangum, Oklahoma, peacefully entered into eternal rest on June 30, 2026, at Mangum Regional Medical Center at the age of 91.
Gene was born on January 15, 1935, near Reed, Oklahoma, to William Edward and Jessie Thelma (Trotter) Miller. He attended Reed and White Flat schools before graduating from Mangum High School.
Throughout his life, Gene was known for his strong work ethic and willingness to learn. He worked as a truck driver, butcher, television repairman, and later found the career he loved with the Oklahoma Corporation Commission, where he traveled the state inspecting gasoline stations and enjoyed meeting people from all walks of life.
Gene married the love of his life, Alice Louise Miller, after the two met on a blind date. Together they built a life centered on family, hard work, and making memories, especially on fishing trips to the Gulf of Mexico.
He possessed an incredible memory and loved sharing the history of Mangum, recalling where families had lived, the stories behind old homes, and the people who helped shape the community. He was also an avid outdoorsman who enjoyed rattlesnake hunting, deer hunting, fishing, gardening, crafting handmade fishing lures, and raising cattle. He also helped establish the Mangum Rattlesnake Association and proudly served as its first president.
Above all, Gene cherished his family. His greatest joy came from spending time with his grandchildren, and great-grandchildren.
Gene was preceded in death by his beloved wife, Alice Louise Miller; his son, Bobby Gene Miller; and his parents, William Edward and Jessie Thelma (Trotter) Miller.
He is survived by his daughter, Patty York and husband Brent; his brother, Jerry Miller and wife Judith; his grandchildren, Aaron York and wife Denise, Angie Elliott and husband Quenton, Tara Terry and husband Michael, and Savanah Reynolds and husband Trystan; numerous great-grandchildren; one great-great-grandchild; and many nieces, nephews, extended family members, and dear friends.
Gene will be remembered for his hard work, generosity, love of family, and the countless stories he shared throughout his life.
