Obituary for Freda Jo Neighbors
Freda Jo Neighbors, a beloved resident of Altus, Oklahoma, and a cherished member of the community, passed away peacefully on July 17, 2024, at Magnolia Creek Long-Term Care Facility in Altus, at the age of seventy-nine.
Born on August 6, 1944, in Lawton, Oklahoma, Freda was the daughter of Joe Fox and Ruth Parker Fox. She spent her formative years in Lawton and later moved to Altus, where she graduated from Altus High School. Freda furthered her education at Cameron University, earning a bachelor's degree in Primary Education. She dedicated over thirty- five years of her life to the Altus Public School System, with thirty-two years spent at Sunset Elementary as a beloved music teacher. She retired in 2007, leaving a lasting impact on countless young minds whom she taught the importance of music and creativity.
Freda's greatest joys in life were her roles as a mother, raising her sons Scott and Joey, and later as a grandmother to Lexi, Katie, Colby, and Daniel. Her family brought her immense pride and joy, and she cherished every moment spent with them.
A woman of deep faith, Freda was a devout Christian and a longstanding member of the First Baptist Church. She shared her musical talents by playing the piano in the senior group and pursued playing the piano as a cherished hobby throughout her life.
Freda was also a member of the " Wednesday Wild Lunch Bunch," a Wednesday lunch club where she formed cherished friendships and created lasting memories over shared meals. Known for her incredible sense of humor and generous heart, Freda had a passion for gardening and a deep love for dogs, which were among her favorite companions.
Freda was preceded in death by her parents, Joe Fox and Ruth Parker Fox. She is survived by her sons, Scott Neighbors and Joey Neighbors and his wife Janet; her grandchildren, Lexi Smalts and husband Josh, Katie Harris and husband Steven, Colby Neighbors and wife Sarah, and Daniel Neighbors; and her great-grandchildren, Elijah Smalts, Jaxton Smalts, and Ellie Harris.
Freda Jo Neighbors will be dearly missed by all who knew her. Her legacy of love, kindness, and dedication to her community will continue to inspire and uplift those whose lives she touched.
A come and go visitation will be from 1:00 p.m. - 8:00 p.m. Sunday, July 21, 2024 at Lowell - Tims Funeral Home Altus, Oklahoma.
Funeral services will be 10:00 a.m. Monday, July 22, 2024 at Lowell - Tims Funeral Home Chapel, Altus, Oklahoma.
