Freddie Nonipile White Eagle, 80, passed away July 13, 2014, at Comanche County Memorial Hospital, in Lawton.

Freddie was born February 1, 1934, to Vena May (Bennet) and Fred White Eagle in Shawnee, Oklahoma. He was born in a Teepee to Native American parents; his mother was Cherokee and his father was Sioux. Freddie has a sister, Stella, and three brothers: Danny White Eagle of Stillwater, Joe White Eagle of Tulsa and Louie White Eagle of Apache. Gene White Eagle, deceased.

Freddie lived in several areas throughout the state of Oklahoma before coming to Altus in 1992. Being a very social person, he quickly made friends through his work with Southwest Enterprises, Meals-on-Wheels and community activities, as well as his church family.

In the Altus community, he was known by many as the gentleman who could correctly name the capital city for each state in the Union. To his audience, this was a remarkable feat. As quickly as any state could be spoken, he could correctly recite the state's capital.

He was also known for his love of music. He loved to go dancing at the community center several times a month where he found a ready partner among the lovely ladies attending. He was even known to sing a few of his favorite songs from time to time with the live band playing for the dances.

He was a faithful member in the First Baptist Church. He participated in Sunday School and adult choir, as well as other events sponsored by the church. He loved to sing or play his harmonica and was always ready to share a song with his friends and his church.

Freddie White Eagle found a home and a 'family' in Altus, Oklahoma.

A special appreciation for his care is expressed to the staffs of Jones Health Care of Anadarko, Jackson County Memorial Hospital of Altus and Comanche Memorial Hospital of Lawton, Oklahoma.

Memorial services for Freddie White Eagle will be at 11:00 a.m., Tuesday, July 22, 2014, at the First Baptist Church, in Altus. Memorial services and cremation are under the direction of Lowell-Tims Funeral Home of Altus.
