Obituary for Flora LaRue
Flora LaRue, 97, passed away Wednesday, February 29, 2012 in Ardmore, Oklahoma.
She was born January 24, 1915, in Mize, Mississippi to Hamilton and Leona (Anderson) Byrd. She married Hardy LaRue on August 25, 1951 in Magee, Mississippi. They made their home in Altus in 1966, coming here from Dill City. They made themselves a part of the community, where Flora became a member of the Western Sam's Club and the Jackson County Home Demonstration Club. Flora was a very talented cook and cooked for many years for the First Baptist Church where she was a faithful member. She also loved home canning and freezing all varieties of fruits and vegetables. Flora was very blessed with the gift of her sewing and gardening abilities.
In 2002, shortly after the death of her devoted husband, Hardy, Flora moved to Ada to be with her daughter, Doris. When Jeff and Doris decided to move to Ardmore to be closer to their children, Flora also moved to a home in Ardmore where she remained. She had a long, prosperous life and leaves a legacy in her children and grandchildren that will carry forward for generations.
Flora is survived by three children, Doris Frederick and husband Jeff of Ardmore, Oklahoma, Bill LaRue and wife Carman of Edmond, Oklahoma and David LaRue and wife Susan of Midalothian, Virginia; one brother, Jeff Byrd of Mize, Mississippi; one sister, Katherine Arrington of Jackson, Mississippi; four grandchildren, Christopher Frederick and wife Christi, Jami West and husband Everett, Shane LaRue and wife Amy, and Andrew LaRue. Also survivng are Five great-grandchildren, one great-grandchild who will be joining the family soon; and many other relatives and friends.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Hamilton and Leona Byrd; her husband, Hardy; one grandson, Ben LaRue; and by six brothers and sisters.
Services have been scheduled for 11:00 am, Saturday, March 3, 2012 in Lowell-Tims Chapel with Dr. Jeff Moore officiating. Interment will follow in the Altus City Cemetery with Lowell-Tims Funeral Home in charge of arrangements.
The family will be receiving guests on Friday evening from 6:30 until 7:30 pm at Lowell-Tims. On-line tributes can be made to the family at www.lowell-tims.com
