Obituary for Evelyn Lee Snodgrass
SNODGRASS
Evelyn Lee Snodgrass, age 96, of Altus, went to be with her Savior, April 28, 2013. She was a lifelong resident of Jackson County being born May 24, 1916, to Calvin and Vaughn (Richie) Price at a home Southeast of Eldorado, Oklahoma. At the age of 17, she married Earnest Willie Snodgrass and they established a home near Olustee, Oklahoma later moving to the Humphreys community. She was a mother, homemaker, seamstress, and many times a field hand. She was proud of the fact that she finally received her high school diploma when she completed the required curriculum at the same time her youngest daughter, Peggy, graduated from high school.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Earnest; a son, James Ray Snodgrass; a sister, Margaret Daniels; a brother, James Price; a daughter-in-law, Kren (Eccles) Snodgrass; a grandson, Brian Dalton; a granddaughter-in-law, Trisha Snodgrass and three great grandsons. She is survived by two sons, Bill Snodgrass and wife Louise of Altus and Wayne Snodgrass of Altus; two daughters, Earnesteen Dalton and husband Doug of Altus and Peggy Terrill and husband Norman of Red Oak, Texas; one daughter-in-law, Olivia Snodgrass of Utah; two sisters, Florene Stroud of Okmulgee, Oklahoma and Lou Ella Waddill of Hemet, California; fifteen grandchildren; eight great grandchildren and five great-great grandchildren.
Evelyn was a member of the First Baptist Church in Altus and was a faithful church attendant until ill health prevented her participation. She very faithfully read her Bible daily and worshipped with her fellow church members through Sunday services on television. Her hobbies were sewing, quilting, crocheting and baking and she was famous for piecing nineteen and quilting quite a few of the big Dahlia quilts. After moving to Altus at the age of 72, she joined the Quilters Guild and took some trips on the church bus going to Glorieta, New Mexico and Niagara Falls. She was also known as "the pie lady" by many of her friends.
Funeral services for Evelyn Snodgrass will be at 2 p.m., Wednesday, May 1, 2013, at Lowell Tims Funeral Home Chapel with Dr. Jeff Moore officiating. Interment will follow at Restlawn Cemetery under the direction of Lowell Tims Funeral Home of Altus.
The family will greet friends on Tuesday from 6:30 until 7:30 p.m. at Lowell Tims.
