Obituary for Evah Jo Diltz
Evah Jo Diltz, age 94, a longtime resident of Altus, passed away Wednesday, July 11, 2018 at the Plantation Village Nursing Center in Altus.
Evah Jo was born in Quanah, Texas on April 16, 1924 to her parents Andrew Jackson Terrell and Eula Bea (Hamrick) Terrell. She graduated from Quanah High School and shortly after Evah Jo married the love of her life Johnnie Diltz on July 17, 1942 in Quanah and they enjoyed over 55 years together before Johnnie's death in 1997. They lived in Quanah where Evah Jo and Johnnie owned Johnnie's Drive Inn from 1950 to 1955. They moved to Altus where they owned the Wilson Dry Goods and the Surrey Shop from 1955 to 1981. Evah Jo was a longtime member of the Elm and Hudson Church Christ in Altus and she enjoyed teaching Sunday School in the youth department for more than 25 years. Evah Jo stayed busy supporting youth as an Altus High School class parent with her husband Johnnie. She loved working in her yard, attending sporting events, traveling and being active at church. Evah Jo treasured her time being with her family and friends and she will be missed.
Preceded in death by her parents and her husband Johnnie in 1997; two brothers, A.J. Terrell; and T.D. Terrell; three sisters, Opal East; Ema Lou Terrell; and Ruby Terrell; daughter-in-law, Janet Diltz; Evah Jo is survived by her two children, Jack Diltz of Altus; and Rebecca Kastner and husband Curtis of Manhattan, Kansas. Evah Jo loved her grandchildren and always enjoyed spending time with them. Eight grandchildren survive her, Jason Kastner and wife Marti of Gallatin, Tennessee; Justin Kastner and wife Susie of Manhattan, Kansas; Jennifer Tice and husband Scotty of Mangum, Oklahoma; and Jeff Diltz and wife Jera of Altus; Six great grandchildren, Ellie, Josie, Ian and Sally Kastner; Jayden and Jordan Benway; as well as numerous nieces and nephews, other family members and many friends.
The family will greet friends at visitation from 5:00 pm until 7:00 pm, Friday evening, July 13, 2018 at Lowell-Tims Funeral Home in Altus.
Funeral services will be at 3:00 pm on Saturday, July 15, 2018 at the Lowell-Tims Funeral Home Chapel in Altus. Interment will follow at Restlawn Memorial Park Cemetery under the direction of Lowell-Tims Funeral Home and Crematory, Altus.
