Eugene Ray
Eugene Ray was born on March 17, 1937 in Gainsville, TX to Mildred (Overstreet) Larkins. After a brief stay in Mangum Nursing Center, Eugene succumbed to illness and was granted his heavenly wings on April 3, 2021.
Eugene grew up in Lawton, OK and in various parts of Texas. After school, he enlisted in the United States Army, where he became a decorated veteran having served in the Gulf war. While on active duty, he was awarded an Army Service Ribbon, National Defense Service Medal with Bronze Service star, Marksmanship Award and the Southwest Asia Service Medal with Bronze Service Star. Eugene received an honorable discharge in 1988 but continued to serve his country as part of the Army Reserves. He was later recalled to active duty in support of Operation Desert Shield/ Desert Storm. He became a salesman after fully retiring from his military career.
Eugene’s personal life included the marriage and divorce of Lillian Barker Jordan Ray. He was well-known around the city of Altus and enjoyed traveling, fishing, and playing host and DJ at family BBQ’s and community gatherings. He was a firm believer in Christ and loved helping people in any way he could.
Awaiting him at Heaven’s gate are his mother, Mildred Larkins and sister, Erma Overstreet Allen. Eugene leaves to cherish his fond memory his son, Charles Eugene Ray of Burmingham, AL; his daughter, Loretta Ray Riggins, Altus; his adopted son, Michael of Altus, Ok; adopted daughter, Tina Ray of Altus, OK. Also, one brother, Randy Larkins of Oklahoma City; and a special cousin, SallyAnne Tillman. He is also the proud grandfather to three grandchildren, Jainto L. Riggins, Donald Riggins Jr., and Christen L. Riggins-Reed and 10 precious great-grandchildren all of whom will miss his presence dearly.
