Obituary for Eugene Douglas Anderson

Eugene D. (Andy) Anderson, age 81, passed away Sunday, July 10l 2005 at Jackson Memorial Hospital.
Andy was born to Fred and Elizabeth (Wandschneider) Anderson in Sparta Wisconsin, on May 29, 1924.
He joined the Army Air Corp in 1942 and served as a Navigator /Bombardier with the 97th Bombardment Group during World War II. On September 13, 1944, following a med-air dog fight, he and his crew were forced to bail out over western Poland. He was captured and imprisoned in the German Prisoner of War (POW) Camp Stalag Luft 1 at Barth, Germany, a small town on the Baltic Sea. Nine and a half months later in May of 1944 his camp was liberated and by late June he was back in the United States. During his military career., Andy received numerous awards and decorations including Air Medal with 1 Oak Leaf Cluster, Purple Heart, Distinguished Unit citation, World WarII Victory Medal, Army of Occupation Medal, Japan, American Campaign Medal, European-African-Middle Eastern Campaign Medal, Good Conduct Medal and 4 Bronze Loops, Air Force Good Conduct Medal, National Defense Medal with 1 Bronze Service Star, Air Force Reserve Medal and Air Force Longevity Service Award Ribbon with 4 Oak Leaf Clusters. Andy retired at the rank of Captain after more than 24 years of faithful and conscientious service to his country. He then worked an additional 11 years as a civil servant for the U.S. Navy before retiring and settling in
Andy was a member of the Faith Lutheran Church in
Altus, the American Legion, VFW Post #4876 and in statewide veterans affairs.
Andy married Nellena (Snorts) Marsh in Petersburg, Virginia on November 12, 1965. She preceded him in death in 1995. He was also preceded in death by his parents, and a daughter, Nancy Fox of Shawnee, OK.
Andy is survived by one daughter, Brenda Petzold of Wichita Falls, Texas; one son, Cooper Campbell and wife Kathy of Blair, Oklahoma; one brother, Clarence F. Anderson and wife Ida of Milwaukee, Wisconsin, a son-in-law, Dr. Ed Fox of Shawnee, Oklahoma; 11 grandchildren, Tony Fox and wife Julie of Little Rock, Arkansas, Todd Fox and wife Laura of Symrna, Delaware, Amber Hixon and husband Richard of Lawton, Oklahoma, Christy Turvaville and husband Mark of Erick, OK, Dusty Petzold of Altus, OK, Tammy Campbell of Altus, OK, Talyan Petzold and wife Cheri of Altus, OK, Britney Winkleman and husband Will of Brenham, TX. Sabra Campbell of Duke, OK, Tacara Mardis and husband Matt of Canyon, TX., John Campbell of Blair, OK; 23 great-grandchildren and a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and many friends.
The family will greet guests on Tuesday, July 12, 2005 from 6-7 pm at Lowell-Tims Funeral Home.
Services will be held Wednesday, July 13, 2005, at 10:00 am in the Lowell-Tims Chapel with Reverend Ronald Boelte and B.J. Armstrong officiating. Interment will follow at the Navajoe Cemetery under the direction of Lowell-Tims Funeral Home.
